How to use every option

  1. Pick a mode — Text → Morse encodes what you type; Morse → Text decodes pasted dots/dashes; Decode Audio/Video/GIF analyzes an uploaded file.
  2. Choose an alphabet — Latin, Arabic, Cyrillic (Russian), Cyrillic (Ukraine), or Hebrew. Numbers, punctuation and prosigns are shared across all of them.
  3. Type your message — the Morse output updates live. Click "Load SOS" any time to reset to the universal distress signal.
  4. Set the sound type — CW Radio Tone for a modern continuous beep, or Telegraph Sounder for a clicky start/end sound closer to historic American Morse equipment.
  5. Adjust pitch, volume, character speed, and Farnsworth speed — character speed sets how fast dots/dashes play (in WPM, based on the word "PARIS"); set Farnsworth lower to keep letters fast but add breathing room between them while learning.
  6. Choose your outputs — toggle sound, a flashing light box (pick any color), and vibration (supported mobile browsers only), then Play, Pause, or Stop.
  7. Export a file — download the tone sequence as a .wav, the flashing light as an animated .gif, or a combined .webm video.
  8. Decode a file — upload an audio or video recording (analyzed by volume) or a GIF (analyzed by brightness flicker), then click Analyze & Decode.
  9. Browse the lookup table — switch tabs for each alphabet, numbers/punctuation, or prosigns, and search by character or pattern.
  10. Practice — Start a round to hear a random character and type what you heard; your score is tracked per session.

Frequently Asked Questions

SOS is sent as three dots, three dashes, three dots (...---...), usually run together as one prosign. It was chosen for its simple, unmistakable pattern, not because the letters abbreviate a phrase.

Yes. Upload an audio file and the tool analyzes its volume envelope to find on/off pulses, classifies them as dots or dashes by relative duration, and decodes the result. This is a best-effort envelope detector, not a full radio demodulator, so clean, consistent-speed recordings decode far more reliably than noisy ones.

Yes, on a best-effort basis. For video, it analyzes the audio track's volume the same way as an audio file. For an animated GIF (or flashing video with sound off), it samples the average brightness of the frame at regular intervals to detect light flashes instead of tones.

Farnsworth timing keeps individual dots and dashes at your chosen character speed, but stretches the gaps between letters and words. This lets beginners hear each character at a realistic, recognizable speed while still having more time to think between characters.

CW Radio Tone is a continuous sine-wave beep, the sound used on modern amateur radio. Telegraph Sounder emulates an electromechanical sounder with a short click at the start and end of each signal, closer to how 19th-century American Morse equipment actually sounded.

They follow commonly published reference mappings for each alphabet's Morse equivalents. Regional and historical sources vary slightly in a few characters, so treat these as a solid reference rather than a single universally binding standard the way the international Latin/numeric table is.
